Making our way west…

As we announced on our last post, we altered our itinerary and instead of heading to New England, we turned westward from Maryland due to bad backs that need some babying. The wilds of Maine were out of the question. So after a stop in Pennsylvania where it it was cold and rainy the whole Memorial Day weekend, we landed in Sandusky, Ohio, where the weather wasn’t a whole lot better! But we had some fun there…

On one of the good weather days, we visited a fantastic place on Lake Erie; Put-in-Bay, a very cool town on Small Bass Island, off Sandusky.

Then it was on to Angola, Indiana, where we hung out beside and on Hogback Lake, so relaxing.

Finally we made it to Michigan, where we spent six wonderful weeks with family. Boating, cooking, eating, laughing, crashing neighbors’ Oompah parties, all flew by in a heartbeat. Visits with my 96-year-old mother were priceless, including a day when I could hear the nursing home’s entertainment director singing “My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean” down the hall and watching my mother, who is in end-stage dementia, mouth the words along with me. She used to sing that to me when I was a child. Like I said, PRICELESS.

Such gorgeous Michigan sunsets…

Now we’re working our way towards Colorado where we’ll spend nearly a month visiting family and friends before the final push to Arizona for the winter. We’ve made quick stops in Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, and we’re currently in Nebraska.

For those who may not have heard, we intend to end our road journeys this year. The plan is to find a small house in early 2022 in Prescott, Arizona which, though at 5,000 feet elevation is still a decent place for winters. Then we hope to spend summers in our portable home of these last 2½ years in Michigan. We found a wonderful RV resort with large spaces, beautiful landscaping, pool, laundry, ice cream shop, everything we need! We can even leave the rig there over the winters, as the annual rental includes storage on-site. Sweet!
