After an amazing time in Virginia, we continued our east coast tour to Maryland, where we stayed near great friend and former coworker Shelby and her husband Ken. After settling into our campground, we met up with them for a little tour of their town of Sykesville, including a stop at a local distillery… yum.

The next day Bubba and I were quite proud of ourselves for navigating from our campground to a park-n-ride 45 minutes away and onto a 30-minute train ride into DC, then a short walk to pick up a DC tour coach. There was NO way we were tackling the traffic of DC with our humongous pickup truck! We loved the sights, architecture and history of the city (click on a pic to enlarge it):

Another fabulous day while in this area was Annapolis, MD, where Shelby got to show off this favorite place of hers, and we could understand why! With its quaint colonial streets, harbor view and history, we fell in love with the place. And oh look, another city, another pub…

We even got a quick drive-through of Baltimore, enough to tell us a drive-through was sufficient and to spot this cool Coast Guard ship.
Sadly our time ended in this awesome location and we had to say goodbye to yet more dear friends. What a wonderful time it was, with tons of laughs and insights into the places that played such important roles in America’s history. One thing we can say about this odyssey of ours−we learn something new about this fascinating country every day. The street names, county names, river names here, all take you back to a time when we were nothing more than an English colony, and make you think about the struggles to gain our independence. Put this area on your bucket list, something every American should do. So until next time… <3
